Employers are required to report an employee’s sickness absence if it lasts over 14 calendar days. The notification should be submitted from day 15 and no later than day 21. This is a prerequisite for the employee to be able to apply for sickness benefit from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency.
Reporting has a direct impact on the employee’s financial situation, and inadequate routines can result in delayed or even completely missed payments. It is therefore particularly important that employers ensure clear processes and a well-defined allocation of responsibility for reporting.
Until now, it has been possible to report employee sickness absence without logging in to the Swedish Social Insurance Agency’s e‑service, meaning notifications could be submitted without formal authorization.
The Swedish Social Insurance Agency has now announced that the option to report sickness absence without logging in will be phased out this autumn, and that companies must connect to the e‑services no later than 31 October 2026.
